So this is a wall...why did I take this photo?
Oh yes I remember, the even red bricks are the
original wall and
the random grey bricks are what was used to fill the massive gap.
Or maybe it was the other way around.
Anyway I believe it shows the different centuries

This is a marble floor of a person's house in Pompeii
Most of the city was destroyed
 but some of the fine
details are still around

Welcome to the Odeon
The small theatre in Pompeii could seat roughly 1800 spectators & is one of the original permanent stone theatres.

Some of the Roman theatres were made of wood and were torn down after the production was complete

I believe the guide said that this is the remains of an Eagle.
Which was quite important in Roman culture

If I thought Positano was crowded, Pompeii was Insane.

Even our local guide was irritated by the 'lack of professionalism of the other guides'

Here are some pictures I managed to snap before the group behind overtook us

Pompeii was a thriving Roman city of approximately 12,000 people

So in all major centers there were theatres, games, markets, a city square, gardens etc...

We just walked through the gate of the outdoor theatre, notice the tile that survived the eruption

This statue is holding up one of the columns at the end of a row of seats

Welcome to the training arena for Gladiators in the reclaimed town of Pompeii...                                  Notice the cone of Mount Vesuvius in the background

As you may know from history books Pompeii was destroyed along with several other communities in the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79

If you look up pictures of Positano on Bing or Google you will see that this small town (3942 people) has built mostly on one the side of the mountain.

It is one of the reasons that we wanted to visit Italy.
...however it is crowded, overpriced and getting there was a bit of a marathon.
Thankfully we stayed in Sorrento instead of Positano!
