Part of a ruined look out tower and the town of Gubbio below

There in the distance is the parking lot...we made it!
We have just enough time
to make
 it back to the bus!

The Umbria Region is known for it's Flag Festival
You may have noticed there are different colours of flags on each of
the above buildings.
The major families in Gubbio have a Family flag
We were lucky enough to have been in the city right before the festival started...we got to see
all the residents getting ready but none of the thousands of people
that were expected the following week

Below are pictures that I liked as we walked further into the town

Next we head to the Medieval city of Gubbio
(pop. 32,000)
Built into the lowest slope of Mt. Ingino part of the Apennines mountain range

"The ancient open air Roman theater built in the 1st century BC used local blocks of
lime stone, is thought to have housed 6000 spectators"

Gubbio is a town of dark grey stones, narrow streets
&
Gothic architecture.
Many of the houses were built in the 14 / 15th century
&
Were owned by wealthy merchants

          WELCOME TO URBINO

Due to the fact that this town is one to 'pass by' according to our driver.
The streets of Urbino were mostly empty...
It was a wonderful morning break on a long drive to Assissi
