Although you can't tell from this photo,
I am up about 5 feet above the moat.
We were there in the dry season.
I can only imagine what it would look like with water

built in the 10th century

Dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva

8 December 2017

The next morning after over  an hour on a bumpy bus ride (only 30 kms away from the hotel) we arrive
at the next temple
It is very hot and I thought I would rather be back at the pool...

However with the lack of crowds and the Amazing Red sandstone temple
that you see in front of you I quickly changed my mind

Up close and personal with the entrance to the temple

Welcome back to the Angkor Paradise Hotel

Time for a swim
Do you notice the solar panels...all the hotels have them

Hardest bed I've EVER slept on

Back down in the ruins were
there was much less people...

...which is what I prefer!

24 November 2017

It's been a long first day...
Must rush to the final temple to witness the setting of the sun

Climb...climb...climb

Up to the highest heights
To find the best view

Good bye Bayon
Hopefully this photo shows the grandeur and sheer size
of the wall and gate

17 November 2017

Welcome to the Elephant Terrace
A place that was sacred during the emperor's time

You have to look closely to see the parade of elephants...

See how the elephant is coming right out of the wall?

Into the depths of the temple...

I have no explanation for this carving...but isn't it great?!

in carvings

Originally there were 49 Face towers within the The Bayon Temple structure. Now there are are only 40
Each tower consisting of four faces representing the spiritual and universal leader
Constructed in the 12th century

Getting up close and personal with the carving....wish I had had my face slightly lower

Glen and I sitting in a stone window box
You may notice that my lower legs are now showing, Daaling said that it was okay but an number
of other visits were less than impressed. Daaling stated that only Angkor Wat had an official dress code

The inner temples of The Bayon
State temple of Jayavarman VII
Considered the symbolic centre
of the universe and empire.

The faces follow your every move...

Because of the distance from the other temples The Bayon does not attract as many visitors.
Great for the temple's preservation and really nice for us.
