WELCOME TO SORRENTO

It was a Long day on the bus...
But coming out of the mountains and arriving at the Sea was glorious

The highway tunnel was closed so we travelled through the city
Lots of traffic, lots of time to take pictures

Forgive me, for I have sinned!

What I don't understand is if the faithful
is to keep their heads bowed...
then why paint such glorious
ceilings in the first
place?

6 May 2020

Working our way up to the second chapel
This is the monks courtyard
Monastery is closed to outsiders, for obvious reasons

This is considered one of the most important sites for
a Christian pilgrimage in Italy. Outside of Vatican City of course
The basilica consists on two churches.
Upper and lower plus a crypt
The frescoes on the walls and ceiling were done mainly by the Lorenzetti brothers Cimabue and Ciotto
& Simone Martini in the 14th century
No pictures allowed!
