Welcome to the Jim Thompson Thai House/Museum

James H.W Thompson was a self made American entrepreneur who was the founder of the world renowned J. Thompson Thai Silk Company. For his contribution to the development of the Thai Silk industry, he was awarded the Order of the White Elephant, a decoration bestowed upon foreigners for having rendered exceptional service to Thailand

 

The house complex consists of six traditional Thai-style houses
 Put together by Jim Thompson, who was an Architect by trade. This project was completed in 1959
In 1967, Jim went on holiday with friends to the Cameron Highlands in
Malaysia. He went out for a walk by himself and never returned.
 Thus began the Jim Thompson legend

This is the day after we arrived, so I'm dealing with jet lag and  being completly overwhelmed with the
 weather and crowds
like no other place before

Brad, Glen and I were hunting for the
butterfly gardens, which we never located. However we did
find a lovely selection of flora to photograph

Glen and I have been thinking and hoping and saving and planning for a trip to Thailand for a good four years! It finally happened and to make things even crazier, we joined a land tour of Viet Nam and Cambodia with Nexus Holidays. So first we'll start with Bangna Thailand, where our friends from Manitoba live with their lovely two children and cat. I wish I could show you pictures of them, however I didn't actually take any. I blame the heat, humidity and jet lag for this mistake.
