Northern End of the Square
These two photo's show you one of the three
famous fountains

This is of Fontana di Nettuno
(Fountain of Neptune)
commissioned in 1576
The sea nymphs
were added in the 1878

In the center of the square is Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi
(Fountain of the Four Rivers)

"Depicts God and the four great rivers in the four
continents as then recognized by the Renaissance geographers: the Nile, the Ganges,
the Danube & the Rio de la Plata"

designed by Bernini
1651
for Pope Innocent X

Piazza Navona (from the air)
Clearly not one
of our photos

This plaza is one of the largest and most beautiful piazza squares (actually oblong)
in Rome.
It is steps from the Trevi fountain and one of my favorite places to visit
thus far...not as many people...

"The reason for its long oval shape is that it was once
the site of the Stadium if Domitian"
It was cobble stoned in the 15th century and hasn't changed
much since.
A great place to grab a snack and people watch

30 April 2021

I tried to get a more centered photo

The mobs that crowded me and pushed me around
were almost too much
to handle
Glen is an excellent body guard!

The Trevi Fountain
Glen's photo captures the sunlight that plays
in the water falling & in the pool that shimmer with coins

The Pantheon Temple
"For two thousand years the Pantheon has towered over the city's
historic center"
This massive structure stands in the
Piazza della Rotonda
Built between  118 & 125 AD

When coming to Rome remember to bring  your
water bottle...all the water fountains are drinkable
Roman's encourage this practice

This is looking West from the bottom of the steps
Every which way you turn there  is something to see
& thousands of people
surrounding you

An old photo in one of the hotels
that we stayed in

The Spanish Steps and the old boat fountain
from a different angle

5 April 2021

This photo is from Pinterest

(I expect this is what the Spanish Steps look like during lockdown)
La Baracaccia or the old boat is in front of the Spanish steps and was commissioned by
the powerful Barberini family in 1629

Most people are unaware that this water is drinkable
'Fed by one of Rome's great aqueducts, is sits a bit below street level
to increase the water pressure to the region'

2 April 2021

After the Colosseum and the heat of the day
we went back to the hotel for a snack and a rest
The fun people in our group
were excited to learn that
Alyssa (our guide) had decided to include
some of the following places before the evening festivities
Such as the Spanish Steps, the Parthenon and the Trevi Fountain

Here are a couple of the fine buildings that we passed during our walk

Welcome to the Last Night in Rome

29 March 2021

To be clear this is not my picture.
I did not wait the 4 hours in 30 + heat to see the
inside of the Colosseum.
I know that was a disappointment for Glen

The cab ride back to the hotel at our expense (90 euros) made his
decision easier

19 March 2021

The crowds, the heat, the Italian trees the ruins in the background
that we simply did not have time to
explore
I can't even find these ruins in my book on Rome

"Creepy Italian trees!"
